Leveling Alliance Guide: Day 1

Alright! So I spent 3 hours playing and made it to just under level 10 and here’s what I think so far:

Starting with absolutely zero gold on a brand new server is really tough. I forgot what it was like to not have *any* money at all. Luckily, during the first 5 levels in the starting area I ended up getting a small black pouch (6 slot bag), which has helped a bit. Not having any bag space didn’t really become a problem until around level 9. Normally I wouldn’t mind just throwing away grey junk except, I need every copper I can get!

Now, I did go off the track a bit as I had to run to Ironforge to learn skinning. It isn’t taught in Kharanos. In fact, I realised that I’m not really giving this guide much of a chance by starting in a zone that really sucks to start out in anyway. It’s my opinion that Dun Morough is one of the worst designed (quest wise…I like snowy areas) areas in the game. That being said….

The guide so far has been pretty easy to follow. I’m finding I don’t like the waypoint arrow however, as unless I tell it which objective I want to do, it’ll change on me, or some times even not have the correct quest I’m supposed to be doing up. Yes, you can set it so that the “crazy arrow” (as it’s called) can point to the direction you need to go to (your map becomes littered with quest objectives which is really cool), but I’d like that bit to be a bit more automatic. I don’t know how possible that is, but I’m considering turning the arrow off as it can be kind of confusing.

The guide did send me to do a level 9 quest at level 6. This was pretty difficult as I’m a Mage and most of my spells were getting resisted. That being said, I did hit level 7 during it, which then made the quest considerably easier. Unfortunately I died twice here, as Mage’s are incredibly squishy, which definitely hurt my time a bit.

It was pretty smooth sailing from there, except the guide then told me it was time to do my Mage quest, which can’t be picked up until level 10. Unfortunately, I was about 4 bars short (you’ll see in the screenshot) which has forced me to grind a bit before I can continue with the guide.

I don’t mind that so much, although I hope instances of that are few and far between, however, what I don’t like is that it doesn’t tell you that you need to be level 10 to get this quest. I know that you need to be level 10 because I’ve been here a few times before, but for someone who is new to the game, this could probably be confusing.

Also, the Halloween event is going on, and someone was kind enough to throw a pumpkin on my head ;P So that explains the jack-o-lantern in the screenshot. :)
